My son is a quiet, thoughtful child who is not very athletic and doesn’t make friends easily. However, I do not consider those characteristics reason enough for him to be bullied at his school on an almost daily basis. I know they talk about their zero tolerance for students who bully, but my son is constantly exposed to verbal and physical abuse, and I am concerned that his self-esteem may be seriously damaged. I have removed him from the school and enrolled him at a nearby Tucson Charter School. He has been so miserable that when I told him we were changing schools, he cried. Being a kid shouldn’t be so painful.
